Happy belated Father’s Day!
We had spent the day hanging out with all the dads and their kids as they dance and sang along to Weezer and their friends (Modest Mouse and Momma). It wasn’t just a night of honoring fathers but achievements too. We chatted with a fan who got his driver's license the day before and of course, his father said this would be the perfect reward (Since the Tour is called the Indie Rock Road Trip tour).
Speaking of the road trip theme we couldn’t get over their stage set up for this tour. It was an elevated and inflated dashboard. The front window projected each song destination whether it was Beverly Hills, Drive-in Movie theater, or even space. The guys played a variety of favorites and hidden tracks, and that night we were treated to an acoustic set of In The Garage. This of course made the excited drunk fan next to us start to cry with joy as this was the song he and his brothers would jam out in their garage in high school. Don’t worry they did play the classic favorites like Island in the Sun, Beverly Hills, Say It Ain’t So, and Buddy Holly. How could we forget they play Hash Pipe too?
Now like we said earlier, Weezer had some friends with them. Momma was the first to share the stage. They would later join Weezer for two songs. The other friend was Modest Mouse. The road trip might be a 30-city run but it’s not the only road trip adventure Weezer will be going on as River announced that he would go on tour in Australia opening for rock legends Kiss.
Time to hop in the car, load up the playlists and snacks, and join Weezer and some of the biggest names in indie rock for what will be the tour of the summer. Introducing (*drum roll please*)… Weezer’s Indie Rock Roadtrip! A 30-city run of Weezer shows, Weezer’s Indie Rock Roadtrip! pairs the alt legends with alternating support from iconic bands of the last fifteen years as well as the coolest up-and-comers: Modest Mouse and Momma, Future Islands and Joyce Manor, Spoon, and White Reaper. These shows, kicking off June 4th in Huntsville, AL, are the first batch following the band’s incredible SZNZ project last year, which yielded the #1 Alternative radio singles “Records” and “A Little Bit Of Love.” The most inventive project to date from the band, SZNZ was a celebrated collection of EPs, made in real time, all matching the aesthetic and sounds of each season. The completed project features some of the most inspired, exciting songs within the much-loved Weezer discography.
