His sultry vocals pair perfectly with bright drums and sunny acoustic chords, which flow into punchy pop choruses with an emo head nod. And, of course, no summer anthem is complete without some existentialism laced in the lyrics. dba’s obsession with numbers comes with valid reasons. “Seven is the most popular number in the world (it’s true - look it up). But what the number really makes me think of is the concept of sonder…. understanding that people I will never meet are experiencing a life I’ll never encounter is my clearest vision of ‘oneness,’” James explained. “I wrote 7* for every person's ability to be ever-changing and different from one another and yet, not. It’s a song about being connected to the whole.”
