Fairweather Friends is no exception, hear the newest from Nikki White

Canadian singer/songwriter, Nikki White, defines her music as dark pop with a message. Her newest single, “Fairweather Friends” is no exception.“Fairweather Friends” and its accompanying video are officially out now. “I wrote this song in Los Angeles with my two friends, Jordyn Kane and Aaron Blackmar,” shares White.

“When I went into the session, I had an idea swirling around for a song with the words ‘fairweather friends.’ I got the idea from my boyfriend the night before, actually. I was complaining about some old friends and how they ditched me when things got bad. My boyfriend told me to ‘let go of those fairweather friends.’ I think he got the phrase from the Kadhja Bonet song.”

To create the video for “Fairweather Friends,” White collaborated with director Alexander Sworik.

“We wanted to capture the feeling we used to get when watching music videos on a Sunday morning back in the day,” says White. “We approached the shoot with a loose plan and tons of energy. And we shot it in my hometown, trying to capture anything and everything we thought looked cool. By the way, my friend in the video has been my best friend in real life for 22 years.”

White began playing music at just nine years old, when her dad taught her how to play some basic chords on the guitar. Shortly thereafter, she penned her very first song, “Breaking my Heart.” By the time she was 16, White had recorded and released two full-length albums.

At 17, White founded the Ontario-based band Nikki’s Wives with fellow musicians Nate Baylor and Dylan Lauzon. Though Nikki’s Wives eventually split up, the band toured extensively through North America, recorded songs that reached over 40 million listeners worldwide, and won song placements on Showtime and VH1.

Now emerging as a powerhouse solo artist, White draws inspiration from strong female performers like Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, and Amy Winehouse. “Music and performing are the only two things that ever felt right,” shares White

Though she writes about some undeniably heavy subjects, White has an ability to express herself without falling too deep into the darkness. With the release of her forthcoming debut solo project, she hopes that sharing her own life experiences with others will break down the stigmas around things like depression, anxiety, and eating disorders – all of which White has grappled with. White hopes that by conquering her own demons she can help someone else tame theirs.

In her free time, White is an ardent supporter of several nonprofit organizations including NEDA, Project Heal, Women for Women International, Eating Disorder Foundation of Canada, and Hopes Garden.

Nikki White will continue to release singles through the rest of 2023.
