#Freshfind Want to go for a Joyride with The Backfires, hear them out first

February 21, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA) – New York City-based transatlantic four-piece The Backfires have released their exhilarating new single, “Joyride.” Fueled by the group’s high energy, organic guitar work, and lead vocalist Alex Gomez’s inspired approach, “Joyride” follows the success of their 2022 singles “Reflections On My TV” and “Blindsided.”

“‘Joyride’ is the epitome of who we are as a band,” Harry Ruprecht [lead guitar] shares. “‘Joyride’ encapsulates the high-energy music we love and like to play most and our future releases this year. The song truly represents us as a live rock band, and musically it draws inspiration from the indie rock scenes in the United Kingdom and the United States. Although I started writing ‘Joyride’ years ago in England, I finished the song with Alex upon moving to New York City and experiencing the nightlife and indie rock scene in the East Village and Lower East Side. We brought it to the band at the beginning of 2022 to get it ready to play live, and it has been our set closer ever since.”

Additionally, The Backfires will be headlining Baby's All Right in New York City with Secondhand Sound as support on Feb. 22 to celebrate the release of “Joyride.” You can purchase tickets here.

More on The Backfires:

One half deriving from England and the other from America, The Backfires formed in 2018 when Alex Gomez (lead vocals) studied in London, meeting Harry Ruprecht (lead guitar) and Max Wanduragala (drums). The group was rounded out by Gomez’s childhood friend Matt Walter (bass), joining the band in 2019 before recording their debut EP.

The band released Consider the Backfires in 2021, and remotely recorded and released their follow-up single “Song 55” later in the year. At the end of 2021, the band reunited in London to record their 2022 singles “Blindsided” and “Reflections On My TV.”

At the beginning of 2022, Ruprecht and Wanduragala relocated to New York City on artist visas. The band made their post-pandemic debut in Feb. 2022 at a sold-out show at Mercury Lounge in New York City before joining Courteeners on a short East Coast tour run in November. The Backfires also made their London performance debut with a sold-out show at The Social.
