BLACKOUT PROBLEMShave released their brand new single‘FUNERAL’, the latest song to be taken from their forthcoming albumRIOTout February 23rdvia Sony Music and available to pre-orderhere.
Despite the name, ‘FUNERAL’ is one of the most positive and danceable songs on the forthcoming record. The bright rock track is laced with synths and euphoria in a celebration of life and relationships.
Regarding the single frontman Mario Radetzky says,"This song is extremely close to my heart. Shortly before the album was finished, I was sitting at the dining table in my shared flat thinking about how dark the record was going to be. But it wasn't all bad. There were also people who kept me going in the most difficult moments, who made me laugh even when I didn't really feel like it.”
‘FUNERAL’ follows the release of‘GLOFS’(ft. Rou Reynolds of Enter Shikari) and‘PUZZLE’, both taken from the upcoming album. Loyal fans will notice recurring elements can be found in the new video which can also be recognized in the videos for the previous singles. They all make up individual puzzle pieces for a short movie that will be released ahead of the album release.
On their albumRIOT, BLACKOUT PROBLEMS move between driving alternative rock, moody dark pop and emotive rock, without losing focus on their strengths: writing authentic songs that deliver the band's usual sound aesthetic at full length. With wild, unusual song structures and free of expectations,BLACKOUT PROBLEMS sound dark but danceable onRIOT- sad and euphoric at the same time.
RIOTeasily became a diary for songwriter Mario Radetzky and marks the most honest and courageous album BLACKOUT PROBLEMS have ever written. According to guitarist Moritz Hammrich, the climate crisis, the refugee crisis and tragic floods in the Ahr Valley in 2021 are factors that shape the band's lyrics as much as their personal crises:"RIOT is a peaceful uprising, not violence, but pure songs – always critical of society, but without a clear answer, both political and apolitical. We don't write anything on our foreheads, but Mario hits the balance of social criticism and his own emotional world perfectly and paints his own pictures from it."
Following their collaboration on ‘GLOFS’, BLACKOUT PROBLEMS will be joining Enter Shikari on their European tour in February 2024. Rou Reynolds has also hinted fans can expect to see them perform the single together live on this run,“I was honoured to have been asked to jump on this song by my friends BLACKOUT PROBLEMS. It’s such an excellently sculpted track and I can’t wait to perform it with them on our tour together in Europe next year!”
BLACKOUT PROBLEMS new albumRIOTwill be released on February 23rd, 2024, digitally, on CD, vinyl, in a special hardcover book and in various bundles via Hansa / SME Germany GmbH / Sony Music.
