My My, Magic Giant is back.
Los Angeles-based alt group MAGIC GIANT is back at it with their lead single “My My,” another infectious, chantable earworm off their upcoming sophomore studio album [title not yet announced]. In addition to being very danceable, the writing is lyrically quite vivid, provocative, and uplifting, a combination that is no stranger to the band: “I’m running naked through a gunfight” and “Looking for a lighthouse in the dark.”
MAGIC GIANT violinist Zambricki Li shares, “The inspiration behind the lyric comes from the Janis Joplin tune where she sings, ‘Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.’ It’s really a blunderbuss buster anthem about that feeling when you first think you’re an alien, an outcast alone, and then you suddenly realize the power of that. You are free. You have no country to champion, you must champion… yourself.”
Lead singer Austin Bisnow adds, “‘My My' is about making the most of the cards you've been dealt, even after you've lost it all and feel like no one cares. A lot of people have lost a lot during the past couple of years and that’s been really hard, but now we get to choose which pieces we go find and pick back up and which ones we let go of.”
Says MG guitarist Zang, “We’re not just optimistic for optimism's sake. We try to be real. Life does have its challenges. But we try to always look on the bright side, and this song is definitely an example of that.”
The band is set to play a special EP release show on February 18th at the Peppermint Club in Los Angeles – their first indoor show since Good Morning America on March 6, 2020 – and there are rumors of a tour to follow. Called "the most festive band in the festival circuit," alt group MAGIC GIANT has amassed over 100M streams, climbed Billboard charts spanning multiple genres, and been named one of “10 Artists You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone.
