#Risingartist: We chat with DBMK about their latest song and everything in between
DBMK - the Nashville-based alt-pop project of Kyle Knudsen (vocals) and Colton Ward (drums) - Just dropped off a Chains.
On “Chains”, DBMK delivers a message of hope for a generation who feel like the weight of the world is on their shoulders. “We’re a generation facing what feels like another apocalypse at the start of every day and live on the cliche ‘we’re here not for a long time, but a good time,’” the duo says. “But while this may be true, we don’t have to spend that time alone and we can even dress up and make it a party along the way.” Delivering brutal honesty through driving drums and soaring vocals, DBMK finds a way to turn the truth into something you can sing along to without fear.
We had the chance to chat with them about the new song, what it’s like to have a viral Tiktok, and what the official snack is for the band. You can watch the full interview up on our youtube channel or on this page.
DBMK constantly push the boundaries of their eclectic alt-pop sound and craft songs that explore the complex layers of the human experience — change, love, loss, joy, misery, triumph, disappointment — with compassion and curiosity. With support from their dedicated fanbase - the “KULT” - DBMK has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting alt-pop projects out there. They’ve sold out numerous shows in their home state of Florida and have managed their own DIY tours all across the country. Despite the touring limitations of 2020, the now Nashville-based duo persevered and released a 6-track EP titled ‘Jump in the Dark.' The EP performed impressive streaming numbers, reaching new fans and resonating with their longtime fanbase.
“Chains” arrives on the heels of “Tough,” DBMK’s infectious 2021 single that addressed the frustrations of feeling stuck in life. With tastemakers like Ones To Watch and idobi Radio already showing the band love, DBMK is ready to step into the next era of their ever-evolving and genre-defying sound.
