Today, Louis The Child released their sophomore album, The Sun Comes Up, via Interscope Records. The album’s 13 tracks explore a variety of tempos, rhythms, genres and moods, filtering it all through the unique choices and perspectives only Louis The Child can deliver. The acclaimed Chicago production duo – comprising Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett – has charted over 20 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs tally and amassed nearly two billion combined career streams to date. Dancing is at the heart of The Sun Comes Up, even as it brings plenty of vocal-heavy moments. Trap and hip-hop beats change suddenly into house rhythms, pushing candy-colored synth melodies into new dimensions mid-song, as exemplified on “Supercharger,” which features 1996Montana on vocals. The Sun Comes Up is a return to form that celebrates curiosity, childlike wonder and gut instinct. From the opening feel-good grooves of “Believe It” (with Madeon) to the wall of sound on the closing track “I’m Not Giving Up” (with MEMBA), the album plays like a field trip through a sunny sky. The accompanying artwork evokes this feeling, showcasing happy little cloud monsters frolicking in a pastel sunrise.
So it’s only fitting that the duo would celebrate the album’s release with a series of outdoor daytime shows. Today, they’ll play Granary Live! In Salt Lake City with special guests Jai Wolf and Wavedash. Tomorrow, September 21, Louis The Child returns to Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, bringing Jai Wolf, MEMBA and Daniel Allen along with them. The Sun Comes Up is about letting your heart lead the way and finding joy in whatever form or medium it takes. Rather than ignore the sadder moments in life, it celebrates them, encouraging one to walk away with a lesson.
“It's what feels worth the time and energy, doing your best to make the world brighter for yourself, and then along the way, for everyone else, too,” Hauldren explains. “When you're intentionally making music, it's your choice what to say. Are you going to talk about how much you hate a person, or are you going to talk about how you've grown from how they treated you, and try to find some new understanding through it?”
