Rising folk-pop sensation Chance Peña unveils his highly-anticipated debut album ‘Ever-Shifting, Continual Blossoming’. The album, described by Peña as “a labor of love, made with the people I love”, is a heartfelt exploration of his musical journey capturing the warmth and depth of his evolving artistry.

We had to find a way to catch up with Chance about Ever-Shifting, Continual Blossoming. Chance just happen to be on tour with KALEO when we spoke to him. We talked about the tour life as well including his solo world tour. Of course we talked about the album.

How is this tour different from the last one?  From both of these tours, what would you like to add into yours?

The biggest difference I’d say is we have a full band this time compared to a year ago opening for David. I think I’ve grown a lot as a performer as well. Just like with anything, the more reps you put in the better you get. As far as additions, as time goes on I’d like to add more members to the band. Some sort of string element, lap steel, anything that’ll just make the sound fuller and more fun for us and the fans!

With your album coming out while you're in the middle of touring, is there any part of you that feels overwhelming? 

I wouldn’t say I feel overwhelmed. If anything it’s hard to keep track of it all. The albums about to come out and I’ve hardly had time to process it. But all in all I’m excited and enjoying everything along the way.

Once this album comes out, are you planning on doing any celebrating?

The night it comes out we’re doing a show with kaleo in NYC and honestly I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate. That’s gonna be awesome. 

Ever-shifting, Continual Blossoming is such a beautiful title for an album, how did you come across the idea of calling your debut album this?

I was reading a book and it was talking about how we’re always growing and changing into something new and how beautiful that change is, and that idea just stuck with me. When I started putting these songs together I just felt like that idea truly summed up everything these songs have to do with.

With a title like that, we were wondering what song was the most ever-shifting in the writing process?

I’d honestly say “muscle memory”. It’s a song about growing in real time. Nate (who co-produced most of the album with me) and Lydia Kaseta, and I wrote about our past relationships. Oddly enough we had all had very similar experiences in our love lives, realizing a season that once was beautiful had started to turn into something it was time to move on from, and finding yourself in the process.

We had the chance to listen to the album. One of our personal favorites was a song called Muscle Memory. Very powerful ballad, curious to know what that felt like in the studio?

In the studio it was just Nate, Lydia, and I talking. It took probably 3-4 hours of us just being vulnerable as we wrote, we’d get a verse then open up to each other more and the more we did the more we wrote. I think every line of that song is heartfelt and true for each of us.

The Mountain is You is the latest music video, are we going to see more music videos for this album?

So far we have one for “is what it is” that my buddy Trong Hoang and I filmed in Joshua Tree. Pretty spontaneously actually, we kinda knew what we wanted the back drop to be, but had now idea what the shots would consist of. We ended up doing two takes of him just following me as I walked around the desert at sunset. I think it came out pretty cool. As I get more free time I’d like to piece together some more visuals for the songs.

More About Chance Peña
