EMM release "Delilah" inspired by Diary of a Mad Black Woman

June 30th, 2023 [Los Angeles, CA] - Self-made instrumentalist, producer and songwriter, EMM, has released her powerful industrial pop single “Delilah,” today. Written by EMM, “Delilah” was inspired by a scene in the Diary of a Mad Black Woman; where the ex-wife of an extremely abusive man finds herself in a caretaker position because he becomes paralyzed, and she is deciding whether or not to take revenge for what he has done to her. EMM elaborates, “The story of Delilah is a bible story where a woman uses her power to drain a man of his strength. I saw a TikTok that said “most men would leave immediately if they were treated as poorly as women are often treated, and women are far more likely to stay.” That really inspired the lyrics “Show no mercy...he would do the same.” Musically the chorus was inspired by Rihanna or Sia’s iconic soaring pop vocals, with the post chorus inspired by an industrial pop version of The Weeknd. Overall the message is that women shouldn’t put up with things that their male counterparts wouldn’t put up with, and that they should demand justice.

2023 is set to be the most epic year yet for EMM, as she gears up for a performance at The Roxy in Los Angeles on July 12th; along with the release of her secret project, GENESIS, slated for release later this year. GENESIS is a two piece documentary and live performance that highlights what women go through in music, and dives into tough topics like sexual abuse in the music business. Like a true alchemist, EMM has turned the things that the industry and the world saw as an inconvenience- her vision, her strong opinions, her power, and her honesty - into her superpowers. EMM has spent the last few years building on her massive catalog of music, which includes her trilogy of mixtapes, EMERALD (2019), RUBY (2020), and SAPPHIRE (2021). Garnering over 100 million independent streams on Spotify and over 5 million views on YouTube; “The Trilogy” allows you to explore EMM’s self-conceived universe. As an artist who sheds light on topics that most females in the industry are scared to touch, going viral is almost second nature to EMM. Much like Lady Gaga in the past, some of EMM’s performance art pieces tend to be misunderstood. Even though her live performance of “END” went viral on TikTok with over 1M views, YouTube flagged it as “gore” due to the nature of the video.

Hailing from a small town in Michigan, and later moving around; EMM spent years struggling in New York City and Los Angeles, sometimes working 3 jobs at a time, including cleaning frat houses, fighting tooth and nail to find ways to share her music with the world. Although it hasn’t been an easy road, EMM’s perseverance has worked all the way up to building a profitable 7 figure business that she owns 100% of and uses to self-fund her career. Her universe is expanding rapidly in 2023-2024 via her incredible and theatrical live show, and multiple other verticals that will be announced soon. She is the definition of a thriving independent artist: calling all the shots in her own career, making her visions come to life, having a hand in every sonic choice and every melody you hear, betting on herself, and standing up for what she believes in most. EMM is a force - And she’s just getting started.

In an era where female pop artists are taught to be products, EMM stands out as a true artist -outspoken, self-directed, and unafraid of being the first to do something new. However, her unique perspective as a producer, classically trained multi-instrumentalist, and life-long songwriter has given her an authentic blend of sonics that make every song deeply personal. As a young woman on her own, struggling to find self worth at the start of her career, EMM was an easy target for the worst of the music industry. Many young women in music face things like assault, harassment, being taken advantage of financially, bad deals, and managers with abusive tendencies; EMM faced and overcame them all. After taking things into her own hands and seeing the success of her debut releases, EMM started to understand her own power and knack for the art of social media and content creation.

EMM spoke to USA Today about partnering with a music app that inspired TikTok, where she amassed 13 million views on her content, and was the #1 artist on the app for two years. Brands noticed, and EMM became a successful influencer creating content for them; which kickstarted her journey of self-funding and funneling all of her earnings back into her music. EMM continued to build her career, performing at some of the city’s largest arenas, including the Staples Center and Dodger Stadium. Publications like Rolling Stone India and American Songwriter started to take notice, with Earmilk stating “—she promotes a persona rarely seen in the pastel pop world, that of a woman who doesn't cater to the entertainment of others. EMM's arresting voice quickly takes command, begging to be heard without any expectation of praise. Because this song wasn't written for the accolades. In truth, none of her songs are. They are all created for the sole purpose of therapeutic writing.”
