We chatted with Sophie about her Fun Again and so much more. If you are not subscribed to our channel, you are missing out!

Flirting with innocence and the fantasy of an old flame, Sophie Colette shares the new single and music video for “Fun Again”, the second track ahead of her debut four-song EP “Kisses From Clay Street”, slated for May 2023 release.

Filmed on an iPhone under the cinematic direction of C. Benji Nelson in Richmond, Virginia, Sophie narrates feelings and tensions that render unexpectedly to a sunset watercolor of “what-ifs” and “might-as-well’s”. From secret smiles to holding hands, a whimsical weekend alongside the iconic James River, Cary Street alleyways, and an old-school playground frame the delicate mirage of Sophie’s musings:

Why do I slide, give you all my time / Finally see that my love was blind

I keep on telling myself / That you’re not the only one

But you just had to come along / Might as well have fun again

Colette co-produces “Fun Again” with Ben Rice (Valerie June, Jonas Brothers, Norah Jones) on the heels of her previous pop single “Don’t Worry”, released in February 2023. Recorded at Degraw Sound in Brooklyn, New York, Sophie weaves nostalgia and playful storytelling with soundscapes of the Rhodes keyboard, live drums by Charlie Culbert (Raffaella, Leyla Blue, Valerie June) and lush harmonic vocals.Colette will support the single and video release with a performance at Black Iris Social Club on March 31, 2023 in Richmond, Virginia.

ABOUT SOPHIE COLETTE

SOPHIE COLETTE is a Richmond, Virginia based indie-pop artist, by way of Brooklyn, New York. Often whisked away in a daydream, writing songs under the sky, Sophie Colette has been immersed in solo releases and collaborations since finding her voice as a pop songwriter.

Initially arriving in New York City to pursue fashion design, Colette pivoted her ambitions to music after being scouted at a high school reunion by former indie rock darlings, The Party Faithful, and supported them on keys and vocals all over NYC. Amidst this journey she met producer Ben Rice (Valerie June, Jonas Brothers, Norah Jones) of Degraw Sound in Brooklyn, New York and later presented Rice with a stack of sketchbooks filled with lyrics and visual palettes, bringing Sophie Colette to the fore as a solo artist.

Colette’s latest single release “Don’t Worry” was selected as glamglare’s Song Pick of the Day, and described by Neon Music as “the feeling of sitting on a hill watching the sun rise over the city.” Tunecore playlisted it on their Spotify playlist “TuneCore: New Music Friday”, and indie French radio station Déclic Radio 101.1FM aired “Don’t Worry” with the cover art as the face of their weekly program. Colette rounded out the release campaign with an animated lyric video and performance at Shockoe Sessions Live, a weekly livestream concert series in Richmond, VA that was filmed in front of a sold out live studio audience for International Women’s Day.

Previously, her single “In Love a Little” premiered on Week In Pop in 2020, and was praised by glamglare as “not only one of Sophie’s finest songs to date but also maybe the most contemporary edgy production.” The video for her single “Would You Like It?” premiered with Atwood Magazine, and was playlisted on Spotify’s editorial playlist, New from NYC: Indie. With a slight nod to ‘80s pop, the “disco-tinged” synth track is underscored by “a sinuous bass line and a soaring hook” (The Joy of Violent Movement), and has been called “a worthy contender for summer anthem of the year.” (Essentially Pop).

Recent notable projects include Direct-to-Vinyl Live Sessions with Leesta Vall Sound Recordings in Brooklyn, New York, where she cut a single take on vinyl to create an exclusive audio polaroid for her fans. Colette also supported Ben Rice’s livestream album release show for “Future Pretend” on keys and vocals, filmed at Degraw Sound in February 2021. In Summer 2021, Colette was featured in TuneCore’s “Independent AF” commercial campaign and named as one of TuneCore’s “2021 Hot 50 Independent Artists to Watch” in the July/August 2021 issue of Rolling Stone, featuring Billie Eilish on the cover.
