NASHVILLE, TN (March 10, 2023) — Today, Nashville-based rising artist Canaan Cox has teamed up with country singer Shaylen to deliver a striking merge of two soulful, powerhouse voices for his sophomore single, “Twice,” from his forthcoming five-track EP — ‘94 Accord — out Friday, May 5.

Holler Country exclusively revealed “Twice” on Wednesday, remarking that: “‘Twice’ is the kind of powerful soul-stirring country ballad that Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean would top the charts with for weeks on end.”

Guided by captivating piano bars, the two breakout country singers share a story of post-break-up remorse and uncertainty, exploring the rather heart-wrenching experience of “what if’s,” that go hand in hand with heartbreak. The two came together for this song through the power of social media. Canaan posted about the upcoming single asking who his fans would like to see featured and multiple people tagged Shaylen. “It was pretty crazy actually,” shares Shaylen. “First of all his voice is insane and I was on board the second I saw the video, so it was a no brainer. Canaan has such a vision for every part of the process, which was really inspiring to be a part of!”

Wanting to provide a compelling visual to the narrative, the track’s official music video will be released on Friday, March 24. The video spotlights a male and female dancer as they partake in a contemporary duet, featuring Canaan and Shaylen in pensive and reflective states. By using this artistic method to encapsulate the feelings portrayed in the lyrics, Canaan effortlessly merges art forms.

“Twice” comes after the EP’s lead single, “Hate Me More” and its music video (74k views on YouTube) which Country Now premiered stating that, “Rising star Canaan Cox has reached beyond the bounds of his own creativity…‘Hate Me More’ dives into the battle between love and loss. His pleading vocals draw the listener in and hold them close.” The song which gained immediate support from Spotify’s “Next From Nashville” official playlist along with Amazon’s “Breakthrough Country,” embodies a sultry, radio-ready, country pop sound, undoubtedly highlighting Canaan’s ability as a songwriter while showcasing his knack for creating, directing, and producing music videos — which he does all on his own.

Diligently honing in on his craft since moving to Nashville in 2016, Canaan has been building a loyal audience (over 259k followers across social media and over 953k monthly Spotify listeners) and has big plans for 2023 — including his five-track ‘94 Accord EP, and a U.K “Coming Home” Tour that kicks off in June.

Originally from North Carolina, his father blasted Conway Twitty records while his mother toured the Southwest with her band, and his seven sisters ensured he had a healthy dose of pop music. Canaan went on to earn a BFA in Musical Theatre from Catawba College which enabled him to have a unique musical perspective that influences everything he does today, from writing original music to his performance during live shows.

“I’ve had many people reach out, giving me their life story or love stories of how my music has helped them through a rough time, a breakup, or simply their morning commute,” says Canaan. “My goal with this forthcoming EP is to expand on, having each song be a story that everyone can relate to.”

With a seven-track album already under his belt, there is much more to come from this multi-talented artist that is paving his own lane in country music.
