We are all just Sleepwalking to Creature Canyon's new song, come listen
NASHVILLE, TN (July 26, 2022) — Accompanied with a cinematic music video, San Diego-based alternative rock outfit Creature Canyon delivers “Sleepwalking,” today. The newest track marks the final single ahead of their debut full-length album, Remarks — slated for release on Friday, September 2 via Gnu Roam/Kartel Music Group. “‘Sleepwalking’ brings to light the different perspectives of someone in a wavering relationship on the brink of collapse. The anxiety of feeling trapped and overanalyzing the disconnects in the relationship has led to uncertainty of what’s to come and longing for resolve,” explains the band.
Musically, “Sleepwalking” features a distorted and saturated lead vocal “that conveys the anguish that the lyrics are expressing and gives the song its aggressive feel,” explains frontman Austin Steele. The sound of a Roland Jupiter synthesizer contributes to the overall glistening sound of the verses, which intertwined with the sound of an organ helps to create the expansive choruses.
Drawing inspiration from Fargo, Breaking Bad, and Collateral, the music video for “Sleepwalking” takes the viewer on a cinematic adventure. Shot across the harsh California desert by director Colin Shephard, it features rising actors Arsi Nami and Ganna Bubnova, as two characters struggling with the possession of a stolen item.
The new cut joins previously released singles “Faded Fire,” the driving “Simulator,” the soulful “Mirrors” and the propulsive “Pressure,” in previewing the band’s forthcoming debut album. Remarks is a dynamic portrayal of personal growth and reflection in the modern age. Diving into colorful and nuanced experiences that traverse through organic and synthetic soundscapes both familiar and new, the album highlights lyrics that encompass uncertainty and moments of self-realization gained by navigating the demise of a dysfunctional relationship and emerging on the other side with a newfound perspective. Produced by Private Island frontman Christian Lum, engineered by Mike Schuppan (Foster The People, Young The Giant, Wolf Alice), mixed by Jordon Silva (Vance Joy, The Avett Brothers), and mastered by Brian Lucey (Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys), Remarks is set for release on September 2.
Talking about the album, Creature Canyon say, “creating this album has been a journey for us, both emotionally and sonically. We spent a lot of time early on in the writing process establishing a sound that collectively represented each and every member of the band. We all had equal contributions to the songwriting, pulling from each member’s past experiences to bring it all together.”
Formed in San Diego, CA, Creature Canyon encapsulates the fiery energy of indie/alt rock with waves of contemporary psychedelia.
