Our last concert of this year ended on a high note as we were treated with a night alone with Allen Stone. In what we meant by that, Allen Stone's latest tour in support of his Apart album was the only one on the lineup. His show took place at the St. Andrew’s Music Theatre in Detroit last night. It may be cold outside but fans know how to warm up the spirits. With chanting past album songs and conversations of the past tours, it was going to be a great night. As we mention, since he was the only one on the bill the night started right away filled with acoustic performances of Look outside and hold it down.
I should also mention that he wasn’t completely alone as he introduced two guest vocals to the stage for the next couple of songs. What was so fascinating about them on stage was their story. Allen Stone had a small tour a few years back where he hosted pretty much a karaoke night. He was so impressed by their skills that he hire them for this tour. Overall, the night was fantastic, and cannot for you guys to see him. The tour dates are listed alongside this as well as where to get tickets.
More about APART
APART was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile, Vance Joy) during the pandemic over the course of three 10-day sessions at the fabled Bear Creek Studios: a converted barn on a 10-acre farm in Stone’s home state of Washington. Not only an ideal showcase for his powerfully emotive voice, the result is a testament to the magic within Stone’s artistry: a profound understanding of music’s potential to imprint upon our lives, and a commitment to creating the kind of songs that endlessly impart wisdom and comfort and undeniable joy. Additional highlights from the 11-track APART include a duet version of “Bed I Made” with Grammy-winning pop star Alessia Cara, and his exquisite singles including cover of the Bob Marley classic “Is This Love” and “Where You’re At” which Billboard noted is “a reminder of just how powerful a vocalist he can be… Stone's stunning pipes carry an important message about finding ways to appreciate current realities.”
Raised in the small Washington town of Chewelah, Stone grew up on gospel music and spent much of his childhood watching his parents sing in church. Since making his full-length debut in 2010, Allen has built a devoted following on the strength of his deeply reflective yet wide-eyed and radiant form of soul music. His most recent album, 2019’s Building Balance, was produced by Jamie Lidell and featured contributions from Mike Posner and Emily King, with the video for “Consider Me” starring Taye Diggs. Stone has appeared on The Today Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! and performed a gorgeous NPR Music Tiny Desk Con
