Vans give a band: The Mumford High School Story

After a hugely successful House Of Vans Pop Up in Detroit last January, Vans will be returning to the city to give five public schools within the Detroit Public Schools Community District a $10,000 grant to fund their music program and $10,000 in music equipment. The schools that will receive the grant are Cass Technical School, DCP Northwestern, Detroit School of Arts, Mumford High School, and Southeastern High School.

Vans remains dedicated to uplifting the local community through music and arts education. The brand is proud to announce the 'Vans Gives A Band Music Fund', a legacy program that was created to inspire and empower students to embrace their creativity through music. "Vans believes everyone should be empowered to express themselves creatively, but creative outlets are not always accessible," says Brooke Burt, Vans Senior Manager of Lifestyle Marketing. "House of Vans opened its doors to give people the opportunity to showcase their art, learn to skate and perform their music live. We want to extend that creative energy outside the walls of House of Vans, further giving the next generation the tools needed to discover their creative talents."

Spent a moment with the students of Mumford High School. Most were bum that they didn’t sport the Vans gear as they were surprised to see the Van’s banner up and two men setting up drum kits and unwrapping guitars stands. They would soon learn that the visit from the shoe and clothing company was much more than just a shoe company. As the announcement came out to the school that Van’s was gifting the students and school with over $20,000 worth of gear and money towards the music program.

The Principal of the school Damian Perry mentions after the event “We play great and to look great just makes us just brings us to a new level. I’m just so proud of the work they all do.” With the help of Assistant Director of Arts and Music K-8 Andrew McGuire as he announced the grant to Band Director Jessica Robins. Bringing her on to the stage to accept the grant. There was a short performance of their band followed with a small dance moment. It was an overall exciting moment for this school and its students. Jessica Robins mention that the grant would be used to help the students both with growth as a team as well as to help their fund trips.
